The state of us

So this is where we are -
caught, green and raw -
shouldering the hot, silvered weight
while the days line the way to our past.

Steadying ourselves
towards a future we would like to predict -
not sure how to get
there
or how we arrived
here -
we wonder -

do we continue as we are?
knowing each other
as we do,

or wait  for something dazzling -
wait for something true.
