So this is where we are –
caught, green and raw –
shouldering the hot, silvered weight
while the days line the way to our past.

Steadying ourselves
towards a future we would like to predict –
not sure how to get
there
or how we arrived
here –
we wonder –

do we continue as we are?
knowing each other
as we do,

or wait  for something dazzling –
wait for something true.
